The subjects of Sims' paintings often include plants with large, luxurious patterns and leaves, or plants and gardens with symbolic presence. She views her paintings as bold and enthusiastic statements of peace, serenity and the splendor of the natural world.

Though Carol Sims has lived and worked in the Pacific Northwest most of her adult life the origins of her current paintings can be traced back to her childhood on a farm in central Illinois. In those early years of caring for livestock, working in the fields or searching for fossils she developed her keen sense of observation and exploration that serves her well today. Carol Sims' vibrant large-scale, up-close views of foliage and botanical settings are presented in a representational impressionistic style, but have an abstract quality. Her deep love of the mystery and awe of the natural world still shines through unabated.

Carol Sims works in Willsonville, Oregon near Portland.
